FACCIA A FACCIA, VENNI, VEDI, VISSI
Contemporary art exhibition – Paris
Light scenography of the Sarah Trouche’s exhibition at Vanessa Quang gallery.
Through precise, integrated interventions, the artist’s message is conveyed without interference from the scenography.
We’ve worked on the drama of each piece, using minimal lighting to encourage visitors to wander around, capture moments in time and develop their own imaginations.
When the artist spikes moulded sculptures of parts of her body, materialising the feeling of pain, she also reflects the resistance that people can develop in the face of trauma. The sharp, unidirectional lighting reinforces the dramatic moment of suffering, time stands still in this installation, the emotion is pointed out, the strength remains.
This strength is echoed in the bronze self-portrait, which is strikingly backlit, testifying to the artist’s poise and integrity. This bronze sculpture faces multiple self-portraits in moulded soap, perforated throughout by bullets. Lit from the front, this installation highlights all the women who share their suffering with it. Together, they create a dialogue between violence and shock.
The exhibition tells the story of a shared existence, of the artist’s encounter with mothers whose children have left for the jihad, and whose emotions she captures in rose quartz sculptures that truly highlight their state of mind. The lighting pierces them while highlighting them like the motif of the chain that connects but hinders.
